Bandari's Impressive Form Continues as Gor Mahia Opens with a Victory
Gor Mahia kicked off the season on a high note with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mathare United in a Football Kenya Federation league match held in Machakos.
Austin Odhiambo put Gor Mahia ahead just before halftime with a goal in the 45th minute, sending the teams into the break at 1-0. The second half saw Gor Mahia dominate, as Musa Shariff, Geoffrey Ochieng’, and Gedeon Bendeka each found the back of the net, securing a commanding win against the Slum Boys.
This victory is the first league win for Gor Mahia under new coach Leonardo Neiva, who now faces the challenge of guiding the team through the season after their recent elimination from the CAF Champions League by Al Ahly in Egypt.
Interestingly, this is the second time in a decade that Gor Mahia has faced Mathare United in their opening match of the season, having also defeated them 4-2 in 2015.
In other league action today, Bandari continued their strong form with a narrow 1-0 win over Sofapaka, extending their unbeaten start to the season with two wins and a draw. Meanwhile, Talanta FC salvaged a point with a late equalizer in their 1-1 draw against Bidco United.
