Boda Boda Rider Tragically Loses Life in Kirinyaga Matatu Crash
A boda boda rider lost his life instantly on Saturday night following a head-on collision with a matatu at Gwa Kariba, located along the Mwea-Embu highway in Kirinyaga County.
Witnesses reported that the rider was traveling from Embu towards Mwea when he attempted to overtake another vehicle. During the maneuver, he veered out of his lane and collided with the oncoming matatu.
“The rider tried to overtake and ended up crashing into the matatu. There was already a traffic jam here due to another accident about 500 meters away,” explained Loise Wawira, a local resident. Another witness, Allan Muriithi, mentioned that the rider was not a familiar face in the area.
Traffic police officers from Wang'uru police station responded swiftly to the scene. They transported the body to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary and towed both the motorcycle and the matatu to Wang'uru police station for further investigation.
Patrick Nyaanga, the Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander, confirmed that no passengers aboard the Meru-bound matatu sustained any injuries.
