Liza Koima, who was charged with killing her husband in a domestic altercation four years ago, has received a 20-year prison sentence.

Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi, while delivering the judgment, emphasized the seriousness of the crime.

Justice Nyakundi pointed out that even after the incident, Koima did not attempt to seek forgiveness from the family of the deceased, Abraham Lagat.

The late businessman was killed on August 27, 2020, at his home in Kipkorgot estate. Koima was arrested shortly after as the main suspect.

In her defense, Koima, a mother of two, stunned the court by admitting her involvement in the murder, claiming it was an act of self-defense.

Koima described how she hit her husband on the head with a blunt object during a struggle in their bedroom that day.

She explained that her husband had initiated the violence after a drinking session, and in the struggle that followed, she managed to seize the weapon from him and struck him in self-defense.

Koima further revealed that her actions were triggered by her husband's persistent demands for an unspecified sum of money, which he intended to use for large-scale farming in Narok County.

She also expressed her fear of informing her neighbors about what had happened, fearing they might retaliate against her for the murder of her husband.
