Tragic Crash in Iran: 28 Pakistani Pilgrims Lose Lives En Route to Iraq
A tragic bus accident in central Iran has claimed the lives of at least 28 Pakistani pilgrims on their way to Iraq for a religious ceremony, according to state media reports on Wednesday.
The accident occurred late Tuesday night when the bus, carrying the pilgrims, overturned and caught fire near the Dehshir-Taft checkpoint in Yazd province, as reported by state television.
"Thus far, 28 fatalities have been confirmed, with 23 others injured. There is a possibility that the death toll may rise," the report highlighted.
Pakistani consular officials in Iran have been summoned to Yazd province to provide assistance in response to the accident.
This incident takes place as millions of Shi'ite Muslims are engaged in the Arbaeen pilgrimage in Karbala, Iraq, an event that marks the 40th day of mourning following the martyrdom of Imam Hussein bin Ali, a pivotal figure in Shi'ite Islam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
